Siren Nation Art & Craft Sale - November 17th
Pollinedrake Tales is my personal world-building project with themes of community, environmental stewardship, and a bit of soft, earthly magic. Unique plant and animal species interact within a world that appears to be post-human, though evidence of humanity’s past waits to be discovered. The central location is Sagewood Forest, an environment that holds the origin story for Pollinedrakes.
An ancient and vital species, Pollinedrakes are large, weathered beasts capable of long-distance travel, both on ground and by air. They depart from Sagewood during the Slumber Months [mid-fall to late winter in human time] to collect seeds and diverse forage for the coming year. They return when the warmth of spring is just around the corner, dispersing what they've collected among the community. This is known as a time of celebration throughout Sagewood.
In this project, I aim to explore sustainability, community, and environmental stewardship. I'll be learning how to discuss important ecological ideas while delivering them with whimsy and adventure. I grew up heavily influenced by stories of animal-based heroics, adventures, and tightly-knit communities out in the wilds of nature. As a result, I have always wanted to build a world of my own with these ideas as a foundation. With Pollinedrake Tales, I put forth my own ideas, mixed with issues of modern times and dressed in a vibrant fantasy world.
We will meet species like the Belkru, the Trufflins, the Fernlings, the Villkedi, and the Pollinedrakes. We will run into characters with backstories like the Black Fawn, rumored to be the old spirit of a lost human child, or the Sagewood Guardian, a peaceful giant that protects the smallest of creatures. There are areas to explore among the swamps, burrows, treetops, and an area referred to as the Oaken Ring, a grove of old trees that turn your stories into earthly magic. The forest is abound with life, both new and familiar.
